London's Free Attractions
London is a costly city for the ordinary. It makes visitors worry. But, the city has got many free attractions.
I have had a business visit to the great city of London by the end of last year. The business meeting was planned for four days and so the flight tickets were booked for that. Fortunately, the meeting was over in two days for some reasons and I got two free days still to stay in London. I had no idea about London's geography and it was then, a former colleague who is now with Enigma Marketing took me on a tour of the Free London attractions.
We first went for some of the free art galleries. Tate Modern (contemporary) and Tate Britain (British Art from the 16 century to the present) are exceptional national art galleries housing some of the finest artworks in the world. Other major London art galleries include the National Portrait Gallery and the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square. I would also recommend The Wallace Collection as it's just off Oxford Street so a perfect escape from a busy shopping spree. Many of the major art galleries and museums stay open late.
All of London's major museums are free, but most offer some special exhibitions for a fee. My favourite is the Museum of London where you can learn the history of London from Roman times to that of today. Of parks, I would recommend St. James's Park as it offers one of the best views of Buckingham Palace. The West Piazza of Covent Garden Market has street performers to entertain you every afternoon. And, London is well-known for its popular street markets. The most popular are Camden Market and Portobello Market, following closely by Greenwich Market.
You can see inside Westminster Abbey for free. Evensong is the most beautiful of services where the Abbey choir sings. The Choristers of the Choir are educated at Westminster Abbey Choir School and are all extremely talented. Evensong is at 5pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, plus at 3pm on Saturdays and Sundays. London has got more free attractions. As I had only two spare days, I could visit only a few of them.
